HEAT AND TEMPERATURE

What is heat? Heat is the transfer of thermal energy from something hotter to something colder.
Temperature: tells us how hot or cold an object is.
We measure temperature with an instrument called thermometer.
The unit used to measure temperature is degrees centigrade Cº

CONDUCTORS AND INSULTATORS

Conductors transmit heat very well.
Insulators do not transmit heat well, plastics, wood and ceremics.

HOW TEMPERATURE AFFECT OBJECTS.

Explain the next chages caused by the heat:

  • Temperature increase.
  • Dilatation.
  • Change of state.

TOPIC 8 ENERGY

WHAT IS ENERGY?

Something has got energy if it can make other thing move or change position.

THE MOST COMMOM FORMS OF ENERGY ARE: (write and explain)

  1. .
  2. .
  3. .
  4. .
  5. .

TRANSFORMATION OF ENERGY

Energy can transform from one forn to another.

Write to examples following this model:

Mechanical energy from the wind in transformed into electric energy

ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION

Draw how electricity is produced and transported, you can get some ideas from page 88, try not to copy, use you own ideas.

SOLIDS LIQUIDS AND GASES

PROPERTIES OF SOLIDS

Most materilas are solids.
solids materilas have some properties, explain them.

  • Strong:
  • Fragile:
  • Flexible:
  • elastic:
The properties of liquids:
Liquids take the shape of the container they are  because they are FLUIDS.
Some liquids can be :
  • Viscous: (explain)
  • Volatile:(explain)

THE STATES OF MATTER

The matter exist in three stages:

  • .
  • .
  • .

SOLIDS have a fixed __________ and a ________ volume.
LIQUIDS: have a fixed_______ but their _________ can change depending on the container they are in. they can ______  from one place to another.
GASES: they don't have a a fixed_________ nor ________   ___________.

TOPIC 7 MATTER

Everything around us that takes up space is MATTER.
Write 3 examples of matter:

  • .
  • .
  • .
Read page 76 and write 4 things that are not matter.
  • .
  • .
  • .
  • .
THE PROPERTIES OF MATTER

All objects have two properties is commom:

  • Mass: (write the definition of mass)
  • Volume: (write the definition of volume)

There are other properties of matter: (write examples about them)
  • Colour:
  • Smell:
  • Lustre:
  • Hardness:

TAREA FINAL TEMA 6

To asses topic 6 you have to prepare a presentation about an animal and the ecosystem that it belongs to.

You can use all the information that you want, minimunm contents are the ones shown in you science book.

You can prepare a card showing information about the animal ( mammal, vertebrate, oviparous...)

You can bring pictures, photographs in paper or in a pendrive.

It must be ready on tuesday 30th3ºB or Monday 29th 3ºA.

LIFE PROCESSES IN PLANTS

Plants are living things so they carry out live processes:
Complete you drawing of a flower pointing out the next parts:

  • Stamens
  • Pistil.
  • Petals
  • Sepals
Plats reproduce during 4 different stages:

  1. .
  2. .
  3. .
  4. .

TOPIC 5: PLANTS

PARTS OF THE PLANT.

Most plants are divided into: ROOTS, LEAVES AND STEM.

Roots: They are underground.
  • They fix the plant to the ground.
  • They absorb water and other substances from the ground.
Stems: they are over the ground.

  • Stem supports the plant.
  • Stem transports water and substances around the plant.
  • Stem divides into Branches.

There are two types of stems describe them.

Leaves: are the green part of the plant.

Draw a leave and describe its different parts.

You can shadow a leaf instead!!!

A funny video to review the parts of the plant.

Sensitivity in animals

Animals receive information from the evironment through their sense organs.
That information goes to the brain that decides what to do.
This process is called sensitivity.

Remeber that this process is the same for humans.

Reproduction in Animals.

Reproduction enables animals to have offspring.
This offspring is similar to their parents.
Most animals have sexual reproduction (male and female must come together to reproduce)

Classification of animals according to their reproduction:

Write the most important characteristics of each type and an example.

  • Oviparous
  • Viviparous:

TOPIC 4: ANIMALS

All living things carry out life processes.
Animals need energy, they obtain energy from the food they eat, this is the process of nutrition.
Depending on the food they eat we classify animals into five different groups:

Write the most important characteristics and an example of each group.

  • Carnivores:
  • Omnivores:
  • Hervibores:
  • Scavengers:
  • Decomposers:

DIGESTION AND THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

TWO VIDEOS ABOUT THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

What is digestion?

During the proces of nutrition we obtain nutrients from the food we eat.
In the process of digestion we obtain nutrients that we need for living and waste products that we don´t need.

Write the function of the following parts of the digestive system:

  1. Mouth and teeth:
  2. Oesophagus:
  3. Stomach:
  4. Small intestine.
  5. Large intestine.
Draw a digestive system and name its different parts.

This is only an example, you can draw your own.

FOOD HIGYENE

Always make sure the foods that you eat are in good condition.

Write 3 examples of natural foods.

Write 3 examples of processed foods.

Always wash your hands before eating or prepaqring food.

Copy the box from page 34

PRESERVING FOODS

Some foods don't need to be preserved beacause don't get bad (spoil)
  • Cereal.
  • Pulses.
  • Dry fruits.
Other fresh foods need preserving:

  • Fish
  • Meat.
  • Vegetables (lettuce...)

There are 3 methods of preserving foods.
  • Heating: heating and packing hermetically: micro organisms are eliminated when  we heat the food, then we store the food in a sealed container without micro organisms.
  • Cooling: Micro organisms can't live in low temperatures, we can store foods in the fridge or in the freezer.
  • Adding preservtives: there are natural preservatives such salt or vinager, other preservatives used are chemical. Using preservativesthe  food last longer time before spoiling.
